Stomp for Stamps 2021

Stomp for Stamps is about having fun, safely! It's also about encouraging you to walk, cycle or scoot more, helping you to learn map-reading skills, discover more about your city, and helping to make our air cleaner for everyone to enjoy.

To get started, visit any Portsmouth library from Monday 2 August to collect a booklet, then you can start your adventure and get Stomping for Stamps!

How to take part

It's easy to take part. Here's what you have to do:

  • Once you have your map book, use the route maps to track down the Pompey monster who looks after each route. You'll find them, numbered 1 - 4, either on wooden posts, metal posts or railings.
  • When you have found each monster, use a smartphone or camera to snap a photo, then visit any Portsmouth library with your book.
  • Show the librarian the four photos and they will give you a sticker for your book.
  • When you have completed at least three of the four routes, and filled in the 'About you' information, show the back page of your book to the library staff to claim your prize. Choose from a Stomper toy, Pompey Monsters water bottle or baseball cap (new for 2021!)
  • Once the challenge has closed we will return the sticker page to you at your school

Remember, the maps are a rough guide so please keep your eyes peeled to track down the monsters.

All you need to do is:

Track, snap and stick!

Libraries are open Monday to Saturday. Opening times vary so please check individual libraries for more details. Find out more about libraries including their plans to keep customers safe from coronavirus.

Stomper reminds you:

  • Stay safe - Never go stomping on your own. Always take an adult with you - a parent, carer or family member over 18 years old.
  • Be very careful about crossing busy roads and never cross without an adult. Always stop, look, listen, think
  • Stay hydrated - Take a drink in case you get thirsty.
  • Carry hand sanitiser with you and use it regularly, especially if you touch a surface.
  • Dress sensibly - Wear comfortable shoes and make sure you wear the right clothes for the weather. Check the forecast before you set off.
  • Have fun stomping. If you tell your friends about Stomp for Stamps you could do it together!

Important information for parents

We hope you and your family enjoy our treasure hunt. To keep everyone safe and to help prevent the spread of coronavirus, please follow the government guidelines.

As a precaution we recommend:

  • If you, your children or anyone in your group are feeling unwell please return home and try again when you are feeling better. Follow the government's advice about staying safe and preventing the spread of coronavirus.
  • Avoid touching the posts to prevent the risk of contamination.
  • Although many coronavirus restrictions have been lifted, you should continue to limit close contact with people you do not usually live with as your children stomp, cycle or scoot.
  • You and your children should wash your hands regularly. We've marked out toilets on each map where you can safely do this. If you can't wash your hands, use hand sanitiser.
  • Many public places still expect and recommend the wearing of face coverings in crowded areas such as public transport and shops so we suggest that you carry one with you. Children under 11 do not need to wear one, but accompanying adults do. Find out more.
