Stomp for Stamps

Stomper is really excited! He's noticed lots of children have been stomping (walking, cycling and scooting) to school, which is brilliant. Stomping keeps us strong and healthy and helps to keep our air clean and safer to breathe.

But what can you do when you're not at school?

Be a brave explorer and keep stomping! To help you do this Stomper has created a stomptastic treasure hunt for you - perfect for the school summer holidays.

We are aware that some of the stamp boxes have gone missing or have been damaged. We are working towards getting these replaced within the next week (by 14/8). In the meantime, please visit the library, let them know the box is missing and they will still issue you with a sticker if you visit all the stamp locations.

How can I take part?

Portsmouth has been split into six areas to explore and Stomper has hidden six stamps in each area. Your mission is to scour the island, find the stamps and unlock Stomper's hidden treasure, a limited-edition, cuddly Stomper!

Simply collect a stamp book from any library or from the reception desk at the Civic Offices and you can start stomping. The books contain maps to guide you to the stamp locations. You only need to complete three areas to claim your treasure.

All the information you need, plus some FAQs can be found here.

Here's what you need to do:

  • Pick up a book from any library or the reception desk at the Civic Offices (available from 1 August)
  • Use the maps to hunt down the stamp locations
  • Collect six stamps to complete one area
  • Take your book to a library, show library staff the completed area and ask for a sticker
  • Stick the sticker inside the stamp page in your book
  • When you have completed three areas and have three stickers in your book, tear out the page to claim your treasure, a limited-edition, cuddly Stomper!

Stomper reminds you to:

  • Stay safe - Never go stomping on your own. Always take an adult with you - a parent, carer or family member over 18 years old.
  • Stay safe when crossing the road. Always use the Green Cross Code
  • Stay hydrated - Take a drink with you in case you get thirsty.
  • Dress sensibly - Wear sensible shoes and make sure you wear the right clothes for the weather. Check the forecast before you set off and remember to wear sunscreen to protect you from the harmful effects of the sun.
  • Have fun stomping. If you tell your friends you could do it together.

  • Where can I pick up a booklet?

From a library or from the reception desk at the Civic Offices, from 1 August

  • How old do I have to be to take part?

The challenge is open to children between 4 and 11 years old who attend a Portsmouth school.

  • How many areas do I need to complete to claim my prize?

All six stamps must be collected from at least three areas to claim your prize.

  • When can I take part in the challenge?

The challenge starts on 1 August and closes on 6 September. You can collect stamps throughout the week, but check the opening hours of shops, libraries and museums involved in the challenge to help plan your journey. For more information about opening times see below.

  • Some areas aren’t close to my home. How can I get there?

We would encourage you to catch a bus - we've marked the nearest stops on the maps for you. If you use the car, find somewhere suitable to park and then start stomping to the stamp locations. Ask the car driver to remember to turn off the car engine when the car is not moving for more than a minute to help keep our air clean.

  • What do I do if I can't find a stamp?

Can't find a stamp? Stampers are inside blue boxes. Check our HINTS SHEET to help you track down the hidden stamp.

Having a problem? Please help Stomper make this fun for everyone by reporting any missing stamps and their locations. Email the safer travel team or tell the library. Library staff will issue a sticker if you tell them the stamp is missing.

How do I claim my prize?

Please remember to place your stickers on the sticker page, then write your name, age, school and class (from September 2019) on the back sticker page of the book so we know where to send your prize! Return your completed page to us by 6 September.

Post or drop off the sticker page from your completed book to:

  • Any Portsmouth library
  • Civic Offices reception desk, or send to:
